📆Issue No. 56 - February 21-22, 2026

Happy weekend, friends! Whether your kiddo is into art, music, science, nature or sensory play, this weekend has something for everyone. If the rain combined with days off from school (and parenting generally) have taught me anything, it's to plan more than you think you should. That’s why I’m flagging the Summer Resource Fair at the County Fair Building in this intro. Summer is coming, and now is the time to start thinking about what your kiddo might like to do with their two months of free time. Let’s get into the weekend!

Black History Month Programming is happening across the city all month long. This weekend’s activities include Lonnie Johnson Invention Lab, a musical performance by Destiny Muhammad, two art activities inspired by Alma Thomas (one in Noe Valley and the other in the Sunset), a Black History Month Healing Circle, a Black Choreographer Festival for all of the older kiddos that love dancing, the 16th Annual Bayview Black History Month & Lunar New Year Celebration, and a Lunar New Year x Black History Month Celebration at Florence Fang Community Farm. For those readers who happen to find themselves in Oakland this weekend, note that the Black Joy Parade is happening on Sunday.

With the year of the Fire Horse officially starting on February 17, there are also a ton of events happening for Lunar New Year this weekend. This weekend’s activities include three Lunar New Year storytimes; a Zodiac Animals for Movers storytime in Chinatown, Lunar New Year Storytime at Cal Academy, and New Moon, New Year storytime at the Exploratorium. Other Lunar New Year events include a performance by the Flying Angels Chinese Dance Company at SFZoo, Spring Festival at the Exploratorium, an Author Talk with Hien Le and The Ancient Music Orchestra of Xi’an International University at the Asian Art Museum, Lunar New Year Calligraphy, A Lion Dance Program at Cal Academy and, Lunar New Year Celebrations at Chase Center, Golden Gate Park, Florence Fang Community Farm as well as celebrations in the Sunset, Bayview, NoPA, and Ingleside.
